Act Natural

The Chicago Park District has over 50 natural areas and 16 historic lagoons that provide calming and inspiring environments which help restore the mind from the mental fatigue of work or the stress of urban living. The park district consists of more than 8,100 acres of municipal parkland and over 580 parks. This web application was developed to help Chicago residents locate venues in their parks; specifically venues representing components of the natural world.

I must also thank my wife Rochel whose valuable insights played a critical role in the shape and content of this work.

An application like this depends greatly on the availability of public data and I am particularly grateful to the Chicago Park District; I spent several hours gathering well-curated data supplied and maintained by park district sources and personnel. Special thanks to park district personnel Pat Levar, Rob Rejman and Brendan Daley for their support and encouragement.

And I must not forget to pay tribute to my cat, Max, who kept me company throughout the many hours of coding.
